Developmental Problems
Developmental disorders are those that interrupt normal development in childhood, whether in a single area of development or in several. The most common delay is in speech, most often a problem with pronunciation or the production of words.
When children are not meeting milestones in, for instance, gross motor skills, then a delay in that particular area is suspected and tests are carried out to discover the reasons for it and how it can be treated. So, if a child isn’t meeting his/her milestones, then it is best to consult with a health professional.
Delays in all or most of these skill areas are termed developmental delay, which is likely related to brain injury or problem. Early intervention is very important for children with development problems. Combinations of speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavior modification techniques, play therapy, and in some cases medication may be needed to help children overcome difficulties that inhibit their ability to reach their full potential.
